The joy of playing music was realized early for Dennis "Dent" Lindsay, American trumpeter, composer and producer whose sound can easily be described as a coolly crafted mix of smooth contemporary jazz, seasoned with R&B, blues and pop flavor.
At the start, he absorbed a plethora of musical genres that filled the air from the little kitchen radio of his Clinton, South Carolina home immersing himself in everything musical. While learning to play his first instrument in elementary school, he developed an appreciation of how different instruments together could stoke the imagination through music.
Stirred by the burgeoning popularity of R&B and funk bands, Dent formed his first musical combo in his early teens...thus setting off a series of stints performing with various bands that would span over the years. But it was during his college years, listening to the likes of Grover Washington, The Crusaders, Yellowjackets, Spyro Gyra and Al Jarreau, that an affinity grew for smooth jazz. In between his 9 to 5 grind and weekend gigs, he honed his skill at composing and producing, working with an array of singers, rap groups and other musicians.
As a solo artist, his music reflects the influences of his experiences and delivers the kind of grooves and colorful textures that are sure to please.
