The joy of music was realized early for Dennis "Dent" Lindsay, American trumpeter, composer and producer whose sound can be described as a smoothly crafted mix of contemporary jazz, seasoned with R&B, blues and pop flavors.
At the beginning, he absorbed a variety of musical genres filling the air from a little kitchen radio of his Clinton, South Carolina home. Developing an affinity to all things musical, he learned to play his first instrument in elementary school and embraced an appreciation of how different instruments together, could stoke the emotional imagination through music.
Stirred by the burgeoning popularity of R&B and funk bands, Dent formed his first musical combo in his early teens...thus setting off a series of stints performing with a number of cover bands that would share stages with performers from the likes of the late Bobby Womack, Clarence Carter and Denise LaSalle to groups like Midnight Star, Slave and The New Edition . But it was during his college days as a member of the world renown South Carolina State Marching 101, and performing the music of Grover Washington, The Crusaders, and George Benson, that a strong affinity grew for contemporary jazz.
After college and In between his 9 to 5 grind and weekend cover band gigs, he honed his skill at composing and arranging music. In an entrepreneurial venture, Dent opened and operated ‘StepStone Productions’, a small recording and music production studio working with an array of singers, rap artist and instrumentalist while simultaniously maintaining & promoting a top forty R&B band.
Today, Dent continues to refine and polish his craft by engaging in music technology and keeping abreast of the ever evolving music business. As a solo artist, his music is a reflection of his experiences, delivering the kind of musical textures and colorful grooves that are sure to move.
